The organising team warmly welcomes you to the Hydepakki and SOOPA’s joint autumn hike heading to the Muotkatunturi Wilderness Area and Stabbursdalen National Park! These regions offer hikers the chance to trek either in the fells of Finnish Lapland or navigate the dramatic mountain landscapes of Norway.
Destination Highlights
Muotkatunturi Wilderness Area
Muotkatunturi is one of Finland’s largest and most tranquil wilderness regions. It is known for its wide fell uplands, expansive birch woodlands, old pine forests and the mosaic of aapa mires. There are no marked trails in the area, giving hikers the freedom to navigate at their own pace and experience the true sense of wilderness. Muotkatunturi is especially well suited for those seeking silence, closeness to nature and gently rolling fell landscapes.
Stabbursdalen National Park
Stabbursdalen National Park showcases northern Norway’s nature at its most impressive. The landscape is dominated by mountains, deep valleys and crystal-clear rivers carving their way through the barren fell terrain. At the heart of the park flows the Stabburselva River, one of the region’s most well-known waterways, surrounded by rocky slopes, open tundra and the world’s northernmost pine forest.
Stabbursdalen is ideal for hikers looking for a bit more challenge and wanting to experience the dramatic beauty of Norway’s mountain scenery. Every ascent rewards you with sweeping views, and the feeling of moving through an almost untouched wilderness makes the area truly unforgettable.
How the Hike Works
We will set off with a group of about 50 participants, who will be divided into smaller groups of 3–6 people before the trip. Hiking takes place within these small groups, and each group will plan its own route as well as take care of food and equipment arrangements. Groups are formed well in advance so that everyone has the chance to get to know their teammates before the hike.
After a demanding but rewarding trek, we will gather together to relax, hang out and enjoy a well‑earned final sauna and shared meal. Joining the hike is not only an amazing experience but also a great opportunity to meet new people and build your hiking skills.
Final Sauna & Meal 🥗 🥗
At the end of the hike, all participants will have the chance to wash up and unwind in the warmth of the sauna. After that, we’ll enjoy a shared buffet meal and exchange stories from the trail. For many, the final sauna and dinner are a cherished moment to reflect on the journey, share experiences with other groups and dream up future adventures with new friends.
Travel
Participation Requirements
To join the autumn hike, you must have experience with overnight camping in a tent, for example from a few weekend hikes. You must also be able to carry all your own gear and take care of yourself independently throughout the hike. Note also that the temperature can drop below zero at times. However, you don’t need to be an expert in everything. Experience is shared within each hiking group, and everyone learns from one another. You need to be willing to ask for help and figure out what you don’t yet know.
