We have a cottage rented for the end of the hike at Saariselkä village from 5-7.6. The cottage is a great chance to relax, share hiking stories and enjoy sauna and fresh food. From the cottage you can still do some last minute day hikes, if the magical wilderness is pulling you back!
👣 Hiking groups and remote meeting 👣
We will divide the participants into hiking groups of around 4-5 people. If you wish, you can also hike on your own, or depending on others, in a smaller group. The organizers will form the groups before the hike based on your hiking experience, your preferred group composition and various answers to the registration form (e.g preferred hiking distance). Every group will plan their own hiking routes, food arrangements, and who will bring common gear. We will have a remote meeting together before the hike. At the meeting we will give instructions related to the hike, and there you can ask all the questions you have about the hike. Groups will also present their route plans at the meeting.
🚍 Transport 🚍
We haven't rented a bus for the hike, as the destination can be conveniently reached with public transport! Participants will travel to their starting spots during Saturday 30.5. The hiking groups can decide their own exact starting spot between Vuotso and Urupää (and their exact timetables). The most important thing is that all the group's members know where to hop off the bus and have gathered together by around midnight. The first night can be spent in the forest a short distance away from the bus stops. Every participant will buy their own public transport tickets! The public transport tickets to and from southern Finland will most likely cost about 100-150€ for students.
We recommend arriving with the bus, which departs Rovaniemi at 17:15 on Saturday 30.5! Most of the organisers will come with that bus, so it might be possible to solve some last minute problems there if necessary. Some options are listed below for how to get to Saariselkä and back:

🎒🏕️📸 Hiking gear and packing list 🎒🏕️📸
If you need to borrow personal gear for the hike (e.g a sleeping bag or sleeping mats), you can contact the storage managers. The borrowing of common gear (e.g tents or camping cookers) can be dealt with once the hiking groups have been formed.
Please read through the packing lists carefully (linked below). These packing lists have been made for autumn hikes, but they also apply for this hike.

Hydepakki, APK, Lutuset and the students hiking club SOOPA (from Oulu) can borrow or rent gear for the duration of the hike. More information about the gear can be found on the organisation's web sites. Please contact the organization storage managers as soon as possible if you need to borrow personal gear:

Also, check with local gear rental shops, which may lend equipment cheaply or even for free.
💵 Registration and payments 💵
The initial participation fee for the hike is 20€. An additional amount will be paid after the hike, once the exact expenses are known. This additional amount will most likely be between 5-30€. The price includes the nights and the common food at the cottage (2 dinners, 2 breakfasts and a lunch). Please note that the public transport tickets and the food for the hike are not included in the price, and you have to buy that yourself! You also need to pay the membership fee of Hyde, Teepakki, APK or Skinnarilan Lutuset before the hike starts. Membership costs 10€, and you can find instructions for joining in the links below:

🤧 Cancellation 🤧
You can cancel your participation until the end of the registration period. After that the registration is binding! Please join the hike only a few are in good health. If you become sick or you need to cancel for some other unforeseen reason, the participation fee can be returned. Cancellations will be considered on a case by case basis.
If there are not enough participants, the hike will be cancelled and the participation fees will be returned to those who registered. Hydepakki, the Academic Scout Guild and Skinnarilan Lutuset are not what the law considers an official travel organizer, and thus are not responsible for any accidents that happen on the hike. We strongly recommend getting travel insurance!
