For the first Hydepakki hike of the autumn season, we have decided to visit the beautiful Koli national park. Join us for a long weekend of hiking the Herajärven kierros and enjoying the autumn colours and hopefully nice weather!
We will take a train from Helsinki to Joensuu, leaving on Thursday 19.9. after 4 pm. From Joensuu we take a minibus and hope to reach Koli around 10 pm. We will leave Koli on the morning of Monday 23.9. and return to Helsinki by the evening. Thus, we will have three full days for hiking. The detailed schedule will be later sent to the participants.
The trail is marked and should not be difficult to follow. However, the terrain is somewhat challenging, so some hiking experience is required for this trip. There are three route options: 1) only the northern part of the Herajärven kierros – around 35 km, 2) full Herajärven kierros – 61 km, and 3) full Herajärven kierros + an extra loop that includes two water crossings – around 70 km. Whichever route option you choose, there are many nice places worth seeing close to the route, so you can do some extra loops if your group agrees to do so. Please note that all the groups will hike a few more km in order to get to the beginning of the trail from the place where the minibus leaves us, so options 2 and 3 are only for those who are sure that they can manage to hike over 20 km per day with full equipment!
We will hike in groups of 4-6 people. The groups will be divided based on your wishes for the route and other answers from the sign up form. Each group plans their foods and other practical issues independently. Full list of required gear will be shared with participants later.
We will have a pre-meeting during the week 37. The exact date will be decided in the following weeks and sent to the participants.
The registration form for the trip is now open and closes on 31.8. Please note that the sign up is binding, which means that we are not able to return the payment after we have bought the tickets in case you cancel your participation! The first part of the payment is 50 e and is to be paid to Teepakki’s account when you sign up, and the second part will be informed after all the train tickets are bought and the minibus reserved, because it depends on the price of the train tickets, your student status and number of participants for the minibus. Also, in case you are not a member of either Hyde or Teepakki yet, you will need to pay the 5 e annual membership fee before the trip to one of them (according to your place of study).
